New Year, New Beginnings!

Hi and welcome 2017,

I am so excited to start this new year, its new goals, hopes and challenges and everything in between. I won’t lie though, the end of last year didn’t quite end as calmly as I would have liked(family medical emergency). But one thing I did do at the closing of last year, was make a big decision that I had been mulling over with for some time and now I’ve made that decision it has left me feeling excited, nervous, positive and weird, all at the same time.

What’s that decision?

Firstly, let me start by saying that before I set goals for the new year, I always feel it’s important to reflect on what has happened throughout the previous year, success’s, failures, challenges and triumphs then everything in-between before I set new intentions and goals.

I like to ask myself-

  • what did I learn from the year/experiences?
  • what could I do differently?
  • would I change a thing if I could?
  • and if I could/can make changes, what would that look like?
  • Then, how will achieve these changes?

The thing that screamed out to me, was my desire to spend more quality time with my family, friends and me! Yes, ME!! All of these things where lacking in 2016.  Then my desire to expand on my coaching business.

Although I work from home and with that comes a lot of flexibility, it also requires discipline, self motivation and a lot of juggling, without much outside support (we don’t have family here in Melbourne). Also with both my business, this also means clients often think they can contact me anytime, night and day and I need to have firm boundaries around this.

How to do this? Well, I knew that meant 3 things;

  1. I need to restructure my current work hours
  2. I need to step back more from my hairdressing business.
  3. I needed to set structured time frames in which I would respond to clients.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week, so you need to always use this time wisely, but for many of you, this doesn’t always happen, you get burden down with commitments and responsibilities you somehow said YES to or roped into, then the schedule gets overloaded. But it is my job/passion to work with people to find ways to stop the overwhelm of this occurring and to achieve more balance and grounding…so I need to practice what I preach right? So, this is what I’m doing!!

My solution…

  • I have restructured my work hours during the week to work in more complimentary with family commitments.
  • I have dropped a day in the salon and this has been a real big one. I have dropped Saturdays! Yep, so not a financial decision but one based on my desire to want more quality time with my kiddo, hubby, extended family who live in the countryside and friends. A much more worthwhile thing to do. Yes we all need money to pay the bills, but you can’t buy time and what’s more important to you?… your loved ones? Or money?
  • I have set firm contact hours in which I will respond to clients in both business. I have always done this loosely but I see this as my responsibility and I’m getting more strict about it this year. This way my daughter/Hubby will get uninterrupted attention from me in the evenings.

Ok, these may not seem big decisions but I can assure you they have been for me. But remember every time you make a decision and commit to it, big or small, it always has a huge impact on your happiness, therefore your health and that always receives a big giant tick from me!

Why I am I telling you all this?

The point of telling you all this is to point  out the fact that when we set new goals and intentions, if you don’t get clarity around where you have been, plus where you want to go, you can get stuck in old patterns and habits and here at The Grounded Chic, we are all about creating new positive good habits.

Although January is well and truly underway and you most likely have set some goals and intentions for this year, it’s not too late to reflect and get clarity around where, how, when and why. Just ask yourself the questions I have listed and it will guide you to a clearer picture and vision to achieving greatness.

  • what did I learn from last year/experiences?
  • what could I do differently?
  • would I change a thing if I could?
  • and if I could/can make changes, what would that look like?
  • How am I going to do this?
