Be your own health advocate!

Your health and wellbeing is so important to your energy, focus, happiness, vitality and longevity. If you truly knew just how amazing our bodies are, then you would be in absolute awe of yourself. Just think about this for a minute; Your body is a multitude of biological pathways working constantly to keep you alive, happy, well and full of energy. You have a autonomic nervous system (ANS). This autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions such as the heart rate, digestion, urination, coughing, sneezing and controls our responses to just about everything- automatically. You don’t have to do anything….or do you? Now I don’t know about you, but this body of mine, is something I certainly want to look after? Though, in this fast paced world we are living, we often neglect this most important fact….If we don’t nurture ourselves and our bodies, then no one is going to do this for us and our truly amazing systems that are there to protect and maintain us, will start to decline- …

Do you stuggle to set boundries?

How often do you find yourself drowning in responsibilities and yet, you get ask to do something, like; another commitment or project at work and you say YES? Or sign your kids up to another activity even though you are struggling to schedule the ones they are already enrolled in into the diary? Perhaps you are someone who really struggles to say No to anyone, but inside your body and mind is screaming “STOP…NO MORE!” It is overwhelming. I know, I use to do this all the time…”YES, I can do that!” ” Sure, I’ll find the time” “if they can do it, surely I can too?”…you know how it goes? Meanwhile, I would struggle to get anything I needed to get done, often in the end feeling resentful, then  I would push myself,  above and beyond, then wonder why my health would deteriorate and I would drag myself out of bed feeling exhausted and drained. We often put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to do more, achieve more, be more! you can read more about the pressure of …

How to regain your control and make you a priority

Are you wanting to take back control and make you the priority you need your body to be? Without good health, you cannot live the incredible life you were born to live. I truly believe that without good food and lifestyle choices, we cannot think, move, function and be at our absolute best. Understanding not only what and how we eat, but also how we choose to live and feel, is essential to our overall wellness. So many people today, live according to what they think they should be doing, instead of what they really want to do. We get bogged down with life’s responsibilities and so often neglect ourselves. For most women, we tend to take on more and more roles than we really need, then these responsibilities begin to wear us down. I know, because for many years, this was me and at times, I can still be this person. In fact, my daughter only this morning told me, “Mummy, you always put everyone else first”. We are always a working progress, but …

Sleep like a baby with my top tips to gain a good nights sleep!

This post has my top 8 tips for you to sleep like a baby! A good night sleep is so essential to our health and wellbeing, It will make us function at our best, feeling rested and clear. I am someone who from time to time, has had sleep problems. Mostly, I sleep really well, but I go through bouts of sleeplessness.  I have little tricks and routines that help me achieve a well rested nights sleep. Below I have listed some of these strategies. There are important reasons for us to have a restful sleep as many restorative functions occur whilst we are in our slumber. Our body goes into rest and repair mode, creating muscle growth, protein synthesis, neurotransmitter restoration, as well as tissue and cell repair. In children it is key for hormone production and brain development. I thinks that’s pretty important! If you are someone who struggles to have a good quality nights sleep, then this can affect your overall health. Sleep issues and insomnia can leave you feeling irritable, low energy, brain fog and unmotivated. These feelings can lead us to …

Slow Down

It is so easy in these busy lives we lead today, to have the tendency to overcomplicate things. So much of what we do is our choice. The job that sucks every ounce of energy from us. The endless list of activities our kids are enrolled in, the committees, sports, extra housework, helping out friends, family, neighbours, dog, all to the exclusion of our own needs- it’s all stuff we said YES too. But perhaps we need to ask ourselves “how is this really working out for me?” The more stressed out, overwhelmed, exhausted and frustrated you feel at not having time for yourself to slow down and reenergize, the greater the disconnect between your mind and body and more than often, less productive. So if everything in your world right now is telling you to STOP! SLOW DOWN! Then, it’s time for you to simplify. To practice saying NO, put up some boundaries and set aside some time for you. I know this is not always easy, especially if your a ‘doer’. I get …
